IRS Notice LT14 may be entitled, "You have past due taxes" or it may be entitled, "You have an unpaid balance of $[amount]". The IRS uses Notice LT14 to remind you of past due taxes and to request that you call them (similar to CP71C). You should not call them until you do some investigation and get legal advice.
Respond to Notice LT14
There could be several reasons you have received this notice. If you agree that you owe the taxes, then you'll have to research the nature and duration of the debt. First, get your returns. If you don't have a copy order them by using IRS Form 4506.
Next, call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and order your "Account Transcripts" This will tell you when the taxes were assessed and the duration of the debt.
Then, inevitably, you'll have to complete Form 433A or Form 433F. These forms can be challenging because the IRS will want proof of all the items listed on the Forms.
Fortunately, we have designed Webinars to show you exactly how to complete the forms, what to say & what to give to the IRS. You may also call Mr. Hopkins directly.
Further Action
But, that is NOT the end of your problem. We must research & explore the various ways to reduce or eliminate your IRS debt.
If you do not agree you owe the taxes then you must research your file with the IRS to discover why they say you owe. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and order your "Wage & Income Transcripts" and your "Account Transcripts" for all the years. These will tell you the nature of the tax, the assessment date & the duration of the tax. They also give all the underlying documents sent to the IRS for you.
Usually, you'll have to file an amended return. In any case, follow the Collection Prep Steps to get prepared against the IRS!
