IRS Notice LT11 states, "Notice of Intent to Levy and Notice of Your Right to a Hearing - Intent to seize your property or rights to property - Amount due immediately: $[amount]". IRS Notice LT11 is almost exactly the same as Notice CP504 & states the IRS intends to seize your property & money. How you react to this notice depends on your situation. Some people have never received any notices from the government & are completely surprised. Others have been fighting the IRS for years.
Other Notices LT11 are LT11A, LT11B, LT11C, LT11D, LT11E, & LT11F.
Steps in response to Notice LT11
You must first determine what the IRS says is owed & why. So, call them at 1-800-829-1040 & order these transcripts: 1) Wage & Income Transcripts, 2) Account Transcripts, & 3) Tax Return Transcripts (if you don't have the returns). You may also go on-line for recent years: IRS.gov.
Don't worry about harassment from the employees by calling the IRS. The number above is the general number for the IRS employees with no collection authority. Since you simply need the documents before you can talk, there's no sense in contacting to collections.
Required Forms
Temporarily, you'll have to secure an installment payment agreement with the IRS. To do this, it is likely you will be required to reveal your current financial information to the IRS using Forms 433A or 433F. These forms are difficult to complete & require a lot of work. Furthermore, you will have to prove all the expense items with evidence of both billings & payments.
If you don't complete these forms in the manner required by the IRS or with the evidence they demand, they will continue to seize your property.
Fortunately, TaxHelp has produced a series of Webinars which show in detail how to properly submit these forms to the IRS. Therefore, you will save a lot of money & time by following the tax attorney directions.
Unfiled Returns
The IRS will not stop any collection if you have not filed returns. But, the account transcripts will tell you if you have any unfiled returns. If you do, please follow the Unfiled Returns Prep Steps & let us prepare your returns so we can lower your cost!
But, the above reactions by you to the Notice LT11 are NOT the end of the problem. We still must research & compare the various ways to eliminate or reduce this IRS debt & create an Action Plan for your specific circumstances. Please see the Collection Prep Steps for more detailed information, forms & guidance.
