The IRS uses Letter 549C to acknowledge a payment you have made & to tell you of any action they have taken along with instructions of what they expect you to do, which is usually nothing.
They could use Letter 549C to inform you that you have full-paid the balance due for the tax year mentioned in the letter or to tell you no action is required (as below). You may be able to use this letter to help secure a loan or credit.
But, if you owe for other tax years and you are making payments to the IRS do not stop making payments or you will default your agreement and be required to go through the time-consuming procedure of disclosing your assets, liabilities and income to the IRS.
