IRS Letter Problems
The IRS has a number of general letters and notices they send to people. Often, many of the letters are similar in language and effect as the Notices listed in TaxHelpLaw Issues.
Mr. Hopkins will review your evidence and determine how urgent is your situation. Generally, with any case, you need to know what is in your IRS file and compare it with your records. Then, he will help you devise an Action Plan for response.
Please DO NOT fill out any questionnaires the IRS requests you to complete until you've met with our tax attorney. What you say in writing to the IRS WILL be used against you!!
Identity Theft
There is a series of forms & letters concerning Identity Theft or Fraud. The Letters are Notice CP01, Letter 4674C, Letter 5073C. The process with the IRS is separate from other necessary tasks you should do. You should contact your local law enforcement. You may have to cancel bank accounts, credit cards or other sensitive funds. See Identity Theft Blog.
Lost Documents
You may fear the IRS because you didn't keep your records or your records are lost or unavailable. However, unless you only used cash, bank records & credit card records can be re-created. Also, even if cash was used, affidavits can be obtained or we can use industry standards to arrive at a reasonable figure. See Lost Documents.
In many cases, you will not need an attorney. Perhaps, a tax return preparer at TaxHelpReturns can be more helpful.
But, if the IRS has a levy on your Wages or Bank Accounts, please complete the above Steps and the Prep Steps for Collection, prior to your appointment with Mr. Hopkins!
*Wage & Income transcripts are computer-generated IRS records about you from your job, your bank, your mortgage company, etc. Account Transcripts show details of your IRS account. If you have problems about calling the IRS just bring what you can and come in. If you call, the IRS may be stern but don't worry, you need the Wage & Income Transcripts & the Account Transcripts. So, tell them you are not yet ready to talk and need the documents for a tax lawyer. Of course, don't Argue!!
