There are several benefits to having Health Care Insurance & there are burdens for failing to have Health Insurance. Supposedly, when the President signed Executive Orders 13813 & 13765 the IRS wouldn't require disclosing if you had Health Insurance nor would the IRS collect if you did not have Health Insurance.
However, the IRS has reversed that policy & continues to pursue taxpayers who fail to have Health Insurance.
If you owe taxes for failing to have insurance, the IRS will bill you with Notice CP14H, & send you increasingly hostile collection notices. (CP501H, CP503H, CP523H & CP71H)
If you've made a mistake & overpaid your tax liability, the IRS will ask you to amend your return & send you Letter 5600C. Notice how the IRS doesn't correct their records but invites you to correct the mistake by filing an Amended Return (Form 1040X).
In any event, the IRS will enforce Collection against you unless you respond appropriately. Visit our Collection Prep Steps for valuable tips & strategies to win against the IRS!
