Department of Treasury Internal Revenue Service Information Document Request IRS Audit Form 4564, Colorado Tax Attorney shows the Steps to respond to an IRS Form 4564!! If you get an audit from the IRS they will send you this Form 4564 (Information Document Request) asking for a lot of personal information from you. An audit is an investigation of you, not just a review of your financial statements. That's why you need a TAX ATTORNEY to protect you from illegal and improper IRS inquiry. Otherwise, they'll use the information you give them against you later. Take, for instance, this Form 4564. The IRS asks for a LOT of information that the IRS is not entitled to get. So, in this case, we responded where it was appropriate and refused to give them documents to which they were not entitled. We told them we'd go to Court. Of course, they backed down but many people would have responded to all the IRS demands and forfeited their rights. Now, the IRS can dig into your personal affairs. Don't give them the option!! Call the TaxHelpLaw Offices at 303 829 4357 or 719 232 2587 BEFORE you respond to the IRS!!

My status
The IRS uses Form 4564 to request information from you for an audit. There are several versions of the 4564 so yours may not be exactly the same as this example, nor will the IRS requests be the same.
Form 4564 is usually used for more serious investigations and they often ask for more information than they really need from you. But, you must prove your case with the least effort and evidence as possible.
Look carefully at the IRS questions and the parts of your return being examined. Perhaps attorney guidance or representation is best for you. After all, an IRS audit is a legal process against you. You must respond correctly to the IRS or be rejected.
But, regardless, someone must put your records in proper order or the IRS won't look at them. You can do it or you can hire a CPA, bookkeeper or attorney for a cost.
It is wise to self-prepare your files. You understand your business and can get the files & tabulate the expenses more efficiently.
